WIFI & LIFI – DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO MODERN DAY TECHNOLOGIES

Well we got to accept the fact that we search for WiFi everywhere we go. Does not matter if is a Hotel, Travel Bus, Flight Travel or even in a Restroom. We are so caught up to check updates on our smartphones wherever we go.

So, in order to get the latest updates and get connected to the world, the Internet technology helps us. WiFi helps in transmitting bits and bytes over wireless transmission to our devices from a central point. Now we have another new technology in the talking which is the LiFi, Light Fidelity.

Full Form:

WiFi – Wireless Fidelity
LiFi  – Light Fidelity

Operation:

WiFi – WiFi transmits data using radio waves with the help of WiFi router.
LiFi – LiFi transmits data using light with the help of LED bulbs.

Interference:

WiFi – Will have interference issues from nearby access points (routers)
LiFi – Do not have any interference issues similar to radio frequency waves.

Technology:

WiFi – WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ad/standard compliant devices
LiFi – Present IrDA compliant devices

Applications:

WiFi – Used for internet browsing with the help of Wi-Fi kiosks or Wi-Fi hotspots
LiFi – Used in airlines, undersea explorations, operation theaters in the hospitals, office and home premises for data transfer and internet browsing.

Advantages:

WiFi – Interference is more, cannot pass through sea water, works in less dense region.
LiFi – Interference is less, can pass through salty sea water, works in denser region.

Privacy:

WiFi – In WiFi, RF signal cannot be blocked by the walls and hence need to employ techniques to achieve secure data transfer.
LiFi – In LiFi, light is blocked by the walls and hence will provide more secure data transfer.

Data Transfer Speed:

WiFi – WLAN-11n offers 150 Mbps, about 1-2 Gbps can be achieve using WiGig/Giga-IR
LiFi – About 1 GBps
